Hurrat Alhurra is the first protectorate established by the Commission; it is located in the northwest of Saudi Arabia with the borders of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and extends east of Wadi Al Sarhan. The surface of this reserve consists of a volcanic plateau where black basaltic rocks abound, as well as a group of low volcanic mountains that are 800 to 1150 meters above sea level.
The reserve is characterized by the diversity of its vegetation, which consists of perennial and annual plants, which usually abound in the streams and sides of the flood. The most important animals in this reserve are the Reem, Arabian Wolf, Red Fox, Sand Fox, Striped Hyena, Wild Rabbit and Gerbil.
